The Royal Television Society conference is taking place this week with lots of very interesting speakers (including our friend Joseph Jaffe). So far we've heard;
- that Unilever have cut their TV spend by 20% over the last 3 years (ouch!) - their top media guy Alan Rutherford said quot;Television is rather ill, it is not dead. But it is going through an evolutionary change. Advertisers are rethinking how they use television as part of their mix."
- that Sky have 'no need, no intention' to give away Sky+ boxes - (mmm! - we'll see) - but the Sky COO Richard Freudenstein did say that all future Sky + boxes would include an ethernet cable to enable video on demand, IPTV and the ability to set the Sky+ by your mobile phone. So that's what the USB port is for.
(Interestingly the new Ofcom figures show that Freeview is outselling Sky by a massive margin now - in Q2 700k vs 75k.)
