Google makes mobile move
One of the challenges facing mobile web is the difficultly in getting to good content - the portals are so so, wap sites tend to be frustratingly slow to navigate and many websites simply just don't work - which is why we;re so excited about Mobizines.
But Google have made a big step forward. As part of their quest to make it big in mobile, they have quietly introduced a new service - when you search in Google mobile and click through to a site, Google re-render the webpage to make it readable. The Google blog describes it;
If you search for [Super Monkey Ball DS release date] in an ordinary web browser on your PC, your first result is this complex, graphics-rich page. Search that same phrase on Google with your mobile phone, though, and your top result is this lightweight, phone-friendly version of the same page. That's because now whenever you click on a Google search result through your mobile web browser, Google automatically translates the page's layout to make it as easy as possible to read on a small screen. We also break long-winded web pages into smaller pieces and do our best to show you the portion that's relevant to your query, first.
This is pretty clever stuff - especially as it trains the user that Google always gives you mobile ready content. We think Google are going to be just as influential (and powerful) in mobile as they are in the web.
We're excited about Google Mobile also. That's why we built mobilicio.us (http://mobilicio.us/www) a site that brings your del.icio.us bookmarks to your mobile device using Google Mobile to "mobilize" the links. We'd be interested to hear what you think of it.
