Some interesting new stats from the US show the problem for traditional classified ads - traffic at the top 15 US classified sites is up by 80% year on year - and 17% of online Americans have sold something online.
This sort of research shows why Rupert Murdoch is so focused online - as he said in an interview this week;
"I don't know anybody under 30 who has ever looked at a classified advertisement in a newspaper. With broadband they do more and more transactions and jobseeking online."
And Seth Godin hits the nail on the head - asking when you last checked a stock price in a newspaper and pointing to US newspapers reducing the space devoted to stocks. He then asks when you last looked for anything in the classifieds in a newspaper.....
What is so fascinating about the world today, is that no-one knows what happens next; not if you're a traditional media owner, a telecoms company or an agency. So its time to experiment!

I cannot remember the last time I bought my own copy of a newspaper what with free METRO newspaper, and news feeds online. People want information hot off the press (excuse the pun) ... majority of the major recruiting firms push ads through job portals as soon as they advertise the jobs are gone. You're not get the same speed of information in printed article.
