Last week we posted about Adblock, the extension for the Firefox browser that strips out all ads from every webpage you look at.
In the last 7 days Adblock has been the 3rd most popular download of extensions, with over 80k downloads. Since launch there have been over 2.3m downloads. And the second most popular download is an extension that adds some functionality to Google searches ( links to Yahoo, Ask Jeeves etc) but also can remove ads from a Google page - this has been downloaded 346k times.
For something that is not at all famous, that is an awful lot of downloads - and an awful lot of people ad avoiding. If word of mouth takes off then the online ad industry might have a problem - the saving grace is that Firefox is still quite small in terms of share.
