Sky+ in 10% of Sky homes

The new results from BSkyB (published yesterday) show that 770k homes now have Sky+ - meaning that 10% of DTH (direct to home) subscribers now have Sky+ - a 20% increase in the last 6 months.

We've estimate that this increased base means the cost to UK advertisers of avoided ads is now around £48m!

Of course PVRs are just as much an opportunity for advertisers as they are a threat. There are lots of very interesting things that advertisers can do with a PVR and we're encouraged by an article in Marketing Week where Mark Wood, the commercial director of Sky, enthuses about the 'possibilities that technology is now promising for TV'. In the article he declares Sky wants to 'involve the ad industry in a dialogue to develop jointly new ways of engaging viewers.' Music to our ears.

We believe that the brands who get involved with the new opportunities that TV provides (including interactive TV) will be the ones who prosper in the future. We look forward to helping some of those brands define the future of TV advertising.
